I have a short request to add Audicity to the " Audio Editors" pinned section in "Video and Audio Editing".
Also "Lame MP3 encodeder" (lame_enc.dll). Single file Audacity requires to encode MP3 files.
It is an excellent tool. Free. And extremely easy to use...
I can provide links if neccesary if any one wants to look over them.
Sarah.

Hello Sarah

Added Audacity to the list

Can you find an information link for Lame which hasn't got " Lame is not an mp3 encoder "

I have a direct link for the lame download but prefer a link which gives information so people can decide if they want it or not

http://lame.sourceforge.net/links.html

everything that i can find about lame (which is what i've tended to believe about it) is that it's not a standalone it's just the plugin for audacity (and a multitude of other progs)

just helpin the research

yeah...because audacity can't make their own (says so on their site) they are using the LAME project (sort of like GNU Gnu is Not Unix)

it would make sense to list audacity with a note below it about LAME

something like
Audacity - Audacity® is free, open source software for recording and editing sounds. It is available for Mac OS X, Microsoft Windows, GNU/Linux, and other operating systems
(Note: To encode MP3s with Audacity you must aquire the LAME plugin. Instructions can be found Here.)

I can't find any reputable information on just the file, but dsenette's links are what i've got.
http://www.mp3dev.org/mp3/
http://lame.sourceforge.net
I have it on a PC magazine coverdisk somewhere, I just delete what I don't need from the package

I'm glad to see others using Audacity. After suggesting it to someone that wanted to edit files he had trouble with his sound. So i have been afraid to suggest it to anyone. I personally like audacity but find my old Cool Edit 2000 to be much better for me to use. Since Adobe bought syntrillium and renamed cool edit to adobe audition and is now charging 3 times the price i paid for it i cannot suggest it to most that want a cheap audio editor.
