MSN Messenger Error

When I log into my MSN I get the following error:

Messenger has encountered and problem and needs to close.

I dont use messenger at all is there a way to disable this or at least get the error to go away?

Thank you for your help. One problem, now that it is gone, when I try to log into MSN I get an error that says "The latest version of msn messenger must be installed before you can use msn again."

Any ideas for this one? Any help you can offer is much appriciated!
