Well I'm new to this but I hope someone can help me. I'm pretty new to computers and am slowly trying to learn this stuff. I ran AVG and it picked up dialer 17e. I have never had to use AVG to get rid of anything and it didn't work this time. :tazz: It shows that it is embedded and archived. What to do now? I had HJT but never used it before but here is the log. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi johncarl

Welcome to geekstogo!

Please read through the instructions before you start (you may want to print this out). The following items are malware and must be fixed

http://securityrespo...moval.tool.html
Unzip the tool and run it

You are running an out-of-date version of HijackThis; can you please download a new copy (there is a link in my signature), unzip it, and replace your existing copy with the new version.

Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {549B5CA7-4A86-11D7-A4DF-000874180BB3} - (no file)
Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and delete them:
(no files)
Exit Explorer, and reboot as normal afterwards.

Post back a fresh HijackThis log and we will take another look.

Well let's see what else I can do wrong this time. I really do appreciate the help. Maybe as I do this more I'll get better at it. Here is the new HJT Log or maybe not. According to AVG the dialer is gone. Here is the Panda scan. The settings for the "show all files" were already O.K. Thanks!

Yes I do have some periodic trouble with my internet connection, besides it being dial-up and $30 a month (it is all that I can get out here). NewDotnet was already in the recycle bin. I didn't not find NDNuninstall*.exe but did delete hh.ico and NDNuninstall6_38.exe. Both trendmicro and panda showed clean. I did run Avast Antivirus for the first time in a while this morning and it came up with Win32:Kuang2. Here is the HJT log. Thank you again and have a nice day.

Hi

Due to the malware you did have on you system it has caused some damage to your connection download the winsoc fix and run it this will reset you back to your default setting
http://main.thatcomp...hp?cid=3&lid=13

As for the Win32:Kuang2 virus alert it a False positive Avast Antivirus picks up the panda scanner as the Win32:Kuang2

Post back if you have any problems will keep this topic open for a few days.

Download the ccleaner
I use this Program and is setup like this all boxs are check. Then chose Auto start.
Now run the ccleaner

Clean out all temp files in Mozilla, Internet Explorer.
Internet Explorer: Tools/ Internet Options/ General/ Temporary internet files/ Delete Files (NOTE, that this may take very long!). You can also set the memory limit to about 80 MB at the Settings.

Mozilla: Edit/ Options/ Extended/ Cache/ Clear Cache

Turn of system restore
Disabling or enabling Windows XP System Restore

Defrag your hard drive turn system restore back on and create a new restore point.

Congratulations! Your system is CLEAN :tazz:

How do you prevent spyware from being installed again? We strongly recommend installing SpywareBlaster (it's free for personal use). Click Here
QUOTE
Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.
Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
Consumes no system resources.

Download, run, check for updates, download updates, select all, protect against checked. All done. Check for updates every couple of weeks. If you have any errors running the program like a missing file see the link at the bottom of the javacool page.

It's also very important to keep your system up to date to avoid unnecessary security risks. Click Here http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ to make sure that you have the latest patches for Windows.

These next two steps are optional, but will provide the greatest protection.
1. Use ANY browser besides Internet Explorer, almost every exploit is crafted to take advantage of an IE weakness. We usually recommend FireFox user posted image.
2. Install Sun's Java. It's much more secure than Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine .

After doing all these, your system will be thoroughly protected from future threats. ;)

Kc ;)

Hi! :tazz: ;) Thank you so very much for the time and help. It seems to being doing much better so far. I downloaded winsockfix but haven't used it yet. I haven't had enough time to do it yet. It doesn't look real easy and I don't want to mess up. Everything else I was basicly already doing. I told the people where I work about this site and what you did for me. I think you'll be helping some friends of mine before long. Thanks again and if ever in SW MO, I'll owe you a steak dinner or ?.
