Trying to run chkdsk on a drive i think may be damagaged. I get this message

"Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Chkdsk may run if this volume is dismounted first. ALL OPENED HANDLES TO THIS VOLUME WOULD THEN BE INVALID. Would you like to force a dismount on this volume? [y/n]"

Will typing "yes" wipe the drive? Or is it ok to hit "yes" and then chkdsk will begin?

Thanks.

Dismounting will not erase everything, but it's usually best to type n first then y when it asks if you want to schedule it for the next restart.

Is that the answer you found?
