I currently have a PC which I will literally change the OS of weekly, and if its lucky maybe even monthly. I'm looking to install vista on it but I'm not sure if it will work or not. I have read the windows vista site on the recommendations of the specs for the computer. I read that you need;

A Windows Vista Premium Ready PC includes at least:

* 1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor1. (Previously said 800MHz)
* 1 GB of system memory.
* A graphics processor that runs Windows Aero2.
* 128 MB of graphics memory.
* 40 GB of hard drive capacity with 15 GB free space.
* DVD-ROM Drive3.
* Audio output capability.
* Internet access capability.

The computer I have is:
Dual Pentium 3 550MHz
1GB RAM
256MB nVidia FX5200
20GB HDD with 20GB Free space
and all others... Should this work? The main thing I'm looking at is the processors, and is it worth me downloading the latest version of vista from MS if I might waste my bandwidth for nothing? I have already asked MSDN the same question but haven't got a reply yet - hope you guys can help.

the answer would be no. Your system does not meet the guidelines to run vista.


no, that doesn't mean it won't install and run. however it will be virtually unuasable. There is a vista upgrade tool that you can run on the system. It will tell you what you have to do to run vista.

I was looking to run the Vista upgrade advisor but then I would need XP installed, my system didn't have an OS installed. Anyway, last night I had completed the download and have installed it on here, and I'm actually quite impressed by the speed of it considering its quite a low spec.
