First, recurring problem of rundll32.dll always loading at start-up. A simple alt-ctl-del takes care of the problem until tonight. Now rundll32.dll keeps reloading itself; shut it down in task manager and a couple minutes later it's back. Cannot figure out what is calling it or how to stop it loading all the time.

Second, got smacked with something big and ugly that dumped a pile of ad-ware/spy-ware/whatever-ware on the computer. Lovely things like Vbouncer and others of that ilk.

Browser (IE 6.x, which is not my default browser (Firefox)) keeps popping open with variations of 'paypop' and various new 'shortcut' icons have appeared on the desktop. Those were deleted and it looks like the icon problem has gone away.

Have run Spybot 8 times (6 in safe mode) and while it does find things (like IGetNet) and appears to fix the problem, everything comes back at the next reboot. I cannot get rid of IGetNet no matter what I try.

Hijack this log1 taken in safemode after Spybot was run:

Can someone please look at these logs (and everything else) and offer some advice and/or explanations? If more information is needed, just ask. I'd like to avoid a total nuke and pave if I can.

Additional information:

Trend Housecall has been run and nothing was found.

Norton AV 2002 (resident on the machine, all virus dat files current) finds nothing.

The hosts file is continually being changed/altered. It cannot be locked or made 'read-only'. The entries below are continually re-added despite manually changing the IP addresses so they point internally. These entries also keep reappearing in HijackThis logs despite SpyBot saying they've been fixed.
69.20.16.183 auto.search.msn.com
69.20.16.183 search.netscape.com
69.20.16.183 ieautosearch

Suggestions on what step(s) to take next would be appreciated.

Your description sounds like the same problem that I'm trying to fix now. I found the following that looks like it might be helpful: http://www.techsuppo...ic/43086-1.html

I plan on trying it -- thought you might want to as well.
