Error Msg and system is running extrememly slow

I'm using a Compaq presario 2100 with windows xp home edition whenever I log onto it I get the following error msg. ' System Error &H8007007e (-2147024770)" Does anyone know what that error msg is?

Also its running extremely slow. I know I haven't used this laptop in about 4 months, I did the windows updates and udated the virus definitions. Does anyone know what might be causing this problem, maybe maleware I don't know. Any help would really be appreciated.

did you do the windows updates BEFORE this started or after? was service pack 2 one of the updates tha tyou did?
