Hi,

I have Windows XP and have been trying to install an update for Adobe Acrobat 6.0.1

In Acrobat, I click on the 'search for updates' and it came up with the update for Adobe Acrobat 6.0.1.
It downloads okay, and then starts to install - it asks for the Acrobat disk and then continues to install.
But then a new screen pops up that says "please wait while Windows confgures Adobe Acrobat" and it has a time remaining bar that just keeps on increasing the time remaining. It moves about 1/4 of the way along the bar but then just increasing the time remaining.

This morning it got up to 300 minutes and I cancelled the updated. It then took a little time and came up with a screen with options to :
quit;
cancel and continue later;
continue

I clicked cancel install and coninue later, and then when I opened Acrobat again, it asked if I wanted to continue and it started trying to install again.

It doesn't freeze but I'm not sure if there is a problem with some configuration or do I just have to leave it running all day?

thanks for helping,

Vanessa

Hi Keith,

No, its Acrobat Professional.

I'm wondering if its because the update is 6.0.1 and on the adobe website, the updates for Acrobat 6.0 are up to 6.0.5

Thanks

See if it lets you install 6.05

Just noticed you need 6.04 first

Hi Keith,

Thanks for that. I thought it would be incremental but so far I cannot get past 6.0.1

It downloads okay, and starts installing but then just keeps on increasing the time remaining while windows is configuring.

So, you have 6.0 and need to go to 6.01?

Can you download and save this, (if you haven't already)

http://www.adobe.com....jsp?ftpID=2366

Click start then run, type msconfig then press enter, click start up, click disable all, click apply and reboot

When windows gets to the desktop, tick do not start the configuration utility

Try to install 6.01

If it runs, you will need to click start then run, type msconfig, put the dot in normal start up, click apply and reboot

Download and save the others, and install it the same was as for 6.01 then return the dot to normal start up

Hi Keith,

I have finally finished installing the updates - I downloaded them and saved to disk, and then installed them and they installed okay. The 6.01 update still took hours, but I could see that it was updating files slowly so I let it run.

Unfortunately I now cannot open Acrobat - I get the following error message:

Error 1305
Error reading from file
c:\program files\common files\adobe\linguistics\provider\promixity\brt04.lex.

verify the file exists and you have access to it

Any ideas??

thanks

If you used msconfig, check you reset it to normal start up

Ask adobe why it is suddenly not updating
