Vista 64bit install issue

Hi I have Win xp Pro installed on my comp. when I tried to boot up from the dvd, I got an error message saying the the application was not a valid 32bit program or something, I have and AMD 64 socket 754, why am I getting that error?

Did you do it from the bios boot or from the wizard install after loading it in windows?

I changed the bios to boot from disc first then after the memory check I hit any key and it gave me that error
