Lost Details view in Explore

I'm asking this for someone else computer so I'm not sure of all the details. Apparently when he goes into Explore and tries to use the Detail view for his folders nothing appears. All other views work fine but he prefers Details. Any thoughts. Its a Windows 98 machine.
