Been trying to get rid of this for awhile. Did everything on the "Do this before posting your log" thread. Thought I got rid of it, but unfortunately seems to come back. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hijack log:

Hi Nuttman69,

Welcome to GeeksToGo Forums and thanks again for your patience.

1. You are running HijackThis from your desktop. HJT creates backups and we want them safe and secure should they be required later. For that reason I recommend to remove HijackThis to its own location. Create a folder on your C: drive: click Start > My Computer, open/double-click your C:\ drive, select New, next Folder and call it C:\hijackthis. Drag HijackThis into that folder!

2. It may be that some infection is misleading HijackThis. Go to your Hijackthis folder and rename Hijackthis.exe to Analyse.exe and than reboot.
After reboot, run Analyse.exe (which is hijackthis of course) and post the log it creates in your next reply.

3. Do you know what these (in bold) are:

O17 - HKLM\System\CS1\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: Domain = AME.ad.sag?
O17 - HKLM\System\CS1\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: SearchList = ame.ad.sag,eur.ad.sag,software-ag.de?

Hi Falu,
Thanks again. I'm at work right now but will do what you suggested when I get home (about 4 hours from now). I'll also post another HJT log afterwards.

The two entries in question are from my work. I bought this computer from my work when we downsized our company and it was place in a domain so that anyone could login with their own user ID and password. The searchlist domain are different domains within our network.

I did run the SmitFraud fix after I read a bit in the forum and it found some problems and corrected them. Maybe that's all I had? Like I said, after work, I'll move and rename HJT and run another log for you.

Again, thanks!

Hi Nuttman69, :whistling:

1. I see in your log that Microsoft AntiSpyware is active. That is good because it is designed to prevent changes to certain areas in the registry in order to block malware from installing on a computer. But it may interfere and/or actually obstruct HijackThis removal. So it has to be disabled first.

Right-click on the Microsoft Anti-Spyware tray icon by your clock (it's the one with the red and yellow bulls-eye), then click on "Security Agents Status" and finally on "Disable real-time protection".

Next, open Microsoft Anti-Spyware.
Click on the Options menu, then Settings.
Select "Real Time Protection" from the left column, Uncheck "Enable (MSAS) Security Agents" and "Enable real-time spyware threat protection".
Click the Save button.

Finally, Right-click on the MSAS tray icon, select "Shutdown Microsoft Antispyware", and click "Yes" in the dialog that comes up.

You can re-enable it once your system is clean! I will let you know!

2. Run HijackTHis, click Scan and checkmark the following entries:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = C:\windows\system32\blank.htm
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = C:\windows\system32\blank.htm

If you installed PartyPoker and wish to use it then its fine to ignore. If you didn't install it intentionally then the entries can be fixed using HijackThis. These are optional fixes because in some cases, the programs are supported by malware and get installed without consent.

O9 - Extra button: PartyPoker.com - {B7FE5D70-9AA2-40F1-9C6B-12A255F085E1} - C:\Program Files\PartyGaming\PartyPoker\RunApp.exe
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: PartyPoker.com - {B7FE5D70-9AA2-40F1-9C6B-12A255F085E1} - C:\Program Files\PartyGaming\PartyPoker\RunApp.exe

Close all browsers and windows, except for HijackThis and click the Fix Checked button; close HijackThis!

3. Using Windows Explorer (to get there right-click your Start button and go to "Explore"), please delete the following folder in bold if listed:

C:\Program Files\PartyGaming\PartyPoker< if you decided to delete PartyPoker

............ and file in bold if listed:

C:\windows\system32\blank.htm

4. Download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

If you use Firefox browser
Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
    Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browser
Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
    Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.

5. Download WinPFind

Extract WinPFind.zip to your c:\ folder.

Reboot and as the computer starts up, just before Windows starts to load, tap the F8 key a few times and then choose Safe Mode from the menu that will appear.

Then open c:\WinPFind and double-click on WinPFind.exe.
When the program is open, click on the Start Scan button to start scanning your computer. Be patient as this scan may take a while.
When it is done, it will show a log and tell you the scan is completed. Reboot your computer back to normal mode and and post the contents of c:\WinPFind\WinPFind.txt as a reply to this topic.

Please reboot to go back into Normal Mode and post the WinPfind report togeher with a fresh HijackThis log and let me know how things are running now!

You're very welcome!

Both logs look clean.

Reboot and as the computer starts up, just before Windows starts to load, tap the F8 key a few times and then choose Safe Mode from the menu that will appear.

While in safe mode run Analyse This.exe (which is HijackThis).

Reboot to go back into Normal Mode and post the HijackThis log!

Hi Nuttman69,

Log looks clean so I think you're ready to go! Before you do however:

1. Remove previous restore points and set a new one to purge any malware that may have been backed up:

Click Start>Help and Support>Undo changes to your computer with System Restore
Click Create A Restore Point then click Next. Give it a name it and then click Create

Click Start>Run and type Cleanmgr
Click the More Options Tab.
Click Clean Up in the System Restore section.

This will remove all previous restore points except the newly created one.

2. It’s time to re-enable your Microsoft AntiSpyware:

* Open Microsoft AntiSpyware.
* Click on Tools, then click Settings.
* In the left pane, click on Real-time Protection.
* Under Startup Options check Enable the Microsoft AntiSpyware Security Agents on startup (recommended).
* Under Real-time spyware threat protection check Enable real-time spyware threat protection (recommended).
* After you check these, click on the Save button and close Microsoft AntiSpyware.

3. In order to prevent future infections follow these recommendations:

a. Visit Windows Update on a regular basis to stay current with critical updates.

b. Use a Firewall. Without a firewall your computer is susceptible to being hacked and taken over. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly. There are several good but for free programmes available like:

Sygate
Kerio
Zone alarm

For a tutorial on Firewalls click: Understanding and Using Firewalls!

c. Install and run the following free programs:

* Ad-Aware SE
A tutorial on using Ad-Aware to remove spyware from your computer may be found here!

* Spybot-Search & Destroy
A tutorial on using Spybot to remove spyware from your computer may be found
here! Please also remember to enable Spybot's "Immunize" and "TeaTimer" features.

* SpywareBlaster
A tutorial on using SpywareBlaster to prevent spyware from ever installing on your computer may be found here!

* SpywareGuard
A tutorial on using SpywareGuard for realtime protection against spyware and hijackers may be found here!

* IE-SPYAD puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.

Keep all these programs (including your anti-virus) up-to-date and run them regularly.
If you do not update regularly they will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

d. I recommend you to read Tony Klein's excellent article: So how did I get infected in the first place?

e. If you want to fight back the Malware Writers, please take a look here!

Glad I was able to help and if there are any other problems related to your computer please feel free to post them in the appropriate forum. Though we help people with spyware and viruses here at GeeksToGo Forums, we also help people with other computer problems! Do not forget to tell your friends about us!

Good luck!
