Hey, I just finished building my computer the other day, and today, ran into a problem when installing the drivers.

I have an ASUS P5B motherboard, and when I go to install the audio driver it gives me the following error.
"The HDA Audio bus driver is required and not found."

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

1. Have you installed the drivers that are on the CD which came with the motherboard?

2. If so, have you installed the chipset drivers, as well as the audio drivers & in which order?

3. Is the only sound card the one one the motherboard (SoundMax I believe) or do you have a second sound card installed as well? (PCI one for example)

4. If you go to Start->Run. and type devmgmt.msc <OK> to open device manager, can you see any devices in there which have either a yellow exclaimation mark or a red cross next to them? If so, what are they?

Hey, thanks for the reply

1. I installed all of the drivers that came on the CD accept for the audio driver. Only because it would not allow me to install it. It gave me this error. "The HDA Audio bus driver is required and not found."

2. I believe I installed the chipset driver. If it was on the CD then yes I did. I clicked the install all option, so they installed in a pre set order. After the audio driver did not install, I tried installing it again after everything.

3. Yes, I only have the one soundcard that came with the motherboard.

4. Yes, there is an exclamation mark on the PCI device, one on Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller, and another one on another Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller.

OK, thanks for the info.
It sounds like you been installing the drivers correctly.

Can you go back to device manager, and for each of the devices which has a yellow (!), double click on the device to open properties. It should give you some indication as to what the problem is (i.e resource conflict, no driver installed, etc).
Repeat for each of the 3 devices

For each of the three, it says there are no drivers installed.

OK. Do you have the P5B, P5B Deluxe or P5B Deluxe WiFi board?

Also, when I try to update the Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller drivers it gives me the following message



Files Needed

The file 'usbehci.sys' on (Unknown) is needed.

Type the path where the file is located, and then click OK.

Hmmm. Did you install the USB 2.0 driver which is on the motherboard CD?

Alright, it said to install windows service pack 1, and just get it from there. I am currently doing that at the moment.

But thats not my main problem. They're just USB's, and can be dealt with later. The auido driver is my main concern.

Sorry, been dealing with several problems at once.
Can I suggest you install SP2 instead of (or after) SP1. XP is virtually unusable without it & it may well solve the USB issue.
I realise you said the audio was higher priority than the usb but its just possible that one may be affecting the other. Either way, install SP2 then see if the audio problem still exists.

If it does, try downloading the latest audio driver from Asus's website & install it (after the SP2 install).

yea, I did this earlier. It does the same thing as the driver on the CD.
