System Restore

I have Windows XP and my System Restore is not working. I have many checkpoints to choose from and when I do so, System Restore seems to run (I see progress bar move while message states restoring files). However, when finishing up I get a message saying Restoration Incomplete. Cannot be restored to "date" system checkpoint, no changes made to computer.

Can anyone help me get System Restore working???

Restore points may be corrupt. In which case best to delete them all and start from scratch with new ones.
