DEAR FRIENDS:

Here's our family's problem/issue with all related background. This was posted earlier under Applications without response and is probably more suited for this thread. Thanks in advance.

GENERAL BACKGROUND: Our family has two desktop computers. We use Verizon DSL as our internet provider. One computer is connected to a modem and D-Link Air Plus Router which, in turn, directs internet service to the second computer. Both computers have Windows XP (version 5.1) and both use Internet Explorer 6.0. Both computers have Java 1.5 installed.

APPARENT GENESIS OF PROBLEM/ISSUE: On Friday, August 4, 2006, we lost connection to the internet during a rainstorm.

PROBLEM/ISSUE UPON RECONNECTION TO INTERNET: On Saturday, August 5, 2006, we regained our internet connection. However, upon regaining our internet connection, NEITHER computer is able to perform any Java-based functions. For example, one family member is a stock/options trader and cannot access his Live Charts which are Java supported. Equally as important, another issue which may or may not be Java-related is that both computers had Yahoo set as their home pages and primary email, but again NEITHER computer can access Yahoo. On every attempt to load the Yahoo page, both computers are repeatedly TIMED OUT. For whatever reason, however, each computer is able to access Google and use its search engine. We are also able to gain access to MOST internet pages. However, we are TIMED OUT when trying to access many other websites which we frequently visit and use--presumably because they are Java based/supported.

REMEDIAL ACTION TAKEN: Ran tests from Java website and others to determine if Java was properly configured etc. and every test affirmed. We have deleted all cookies and temporary internet files. We have run McAfee, Trend Micro and Panda virus and malware/spyware scans. We have disabled all pop-up blockers. We have attempted to reload Java but are TIMED OUT by Java itself when trying to reload the 1.5 update.

OUR REQUEST FOR ADVICE/ASSISTANCE: Please advise/opine as to why this Java and Yahoo/website issue is likely OCCURING and on BOTH COMPUTERS SIMULTANEOUSLY since the internet interruption and reconnection, and suggest possible remedies. If you need any further information, we will promptly respond. Thank you in advance.

Sincerely,

THE JASIONIS FAMILY
