net keeps getting disconnected

I have a 256kbps broadband connection
which is giving me a lot of trouble
whenever i am playing online or browsing the web
it keeps getting disconnected
it doesnt show anywhere that its disconnected but the sites dont open
and i cant connect to anyplace
i always have to right click the connection button in the right bottom corner
and click repair to bring it back to normal
but after that it soon gets disconnected again
it may or may not return to normal after a while
would appreciate some advice
