WMP keeps making itself the default player even though I've gone under "Tools" "Options" and "File Types" and unchecked every last one of them trying to keep it from starting as the default DVD player. But sure enough, as soon as I load DVD, WMP starts up...I've even associated .vob files with WinDVD but that hasn't helped.

My laptop is IBM T30 and I prefer using WinDVD since it plays all of my DVDs at my preset screen resolution, WMP keeps telling me to turn it down and then won't play the [bleep] things anyway!

I want to keep WMP on laptop because I use it for other functions...

Thanks,

first you have to deselect the file types in wmp. then go into your prefered dvd player software and set the file types there.

What version of windvd are you using?

Well I'm having a problem trying to find the version number but it looks like it is version 3. And I can't find where inside the program I can make it the preferred DVD player.

A general question; will Win DVD do everything WMP does? If so, I think I will upgrade to ver 7. It looks like it will play DVDs from any region, is this the case?

Thanks for your help...

Have you tried changing the settings under "Add & Remove Programs"?

I looked into that originally but it is an "all or nothing" selection, isn't it?

I would like (2) media players, WinDVD for DVDs and WMP for all others...

When I load DVD, WMP is the chosen player. However when I uncheck "DVD Video" in WMP, it doesn't take. The next time I load DVD, I get the box with all of my choices, like "Play with Win DVD", "Play with Windows Media Player", "View Files/Folders" etc.

However when I select "Play with Win DVD", it actually opens with WMP...I've not been able to find the proper software switch to stop this from happening. I even associated .vob files with Win DVD on file properties but no success...

Is WinDVD 7 a good upgrade?
