I repaired the Windows XP installation on my Gateway 700X computer (80GB HD, 1GB RAM). I followed up with an SP2 upgrade and finally followed with the Gateway Recovery program to update the Gateway drivers. This included a successful USB 2.0 driver update.

My PC works like a charm, except that none of my USB connected devices is recognized. The device manager lists all the USB ports as in working order. But suddenly these devices don't show up at all: Canon Pixma 780 printer, 250GB Ultra external HD, HP dvd movie writer dc 4000. Also while the D: drive which is assigned to the DVD drive is listed as a working device, it won't play any disks. The light comes up and is seens the disc is about to be loaded but within 10 secs the light goes out and nothing happens. This was one of the problems that prompted me to repair my Windows installation. (Has the drive failed). Quite frankly, I'm more bothered about none of my USB devices working.

I'll appreciate any help.
