I have recently been experiencing sporadic functionality with my USB ports. For example, not recognizing MP3 Player until after several resets and reboots, printer not recognized until after power on/off, and f:/drive having to be hard booted to be recognized. The only device that works consistently is mouse.

I researched the issue and went the path of updating the drivers, which I discovered were embedded in SP2. Well, here may be the real problem, my PC seems to have a big issue with Windows Updates. My history screen indicates unsuccessful updates dating back to late 2005! Is it possible I missed a USB driver update and that's what's spoiling the fun? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Make/Model of pc?

If you cannot update through IE, attempt using AUTO updates by setting it to tell you when there are new updates.

The usb issue could or could not be related to windows updates (highly doubt its related) but motherboards do release bios updates, and in most cases the bios updates fix various memory/chipset problems.

Not sure what KB numbers references.

Make/Model of pc? - Gateway, XL/P43.0

If you cannot update through IE, attempt using AUTO updates by setting it to tell you when there are new updates. - Auto Updates did not work as well, in fact was set to auto when I realized they were failing, then tried manual updates.

The usb issue could or could not be related to windows updates (highly doubt its related) but motherboards do release bios updates, and in most cases the bios updates fix various memory/chipset problems. - I will look for a BIOS update for the Mobo and see if that makes a difference.

Hotfixes usually have KB numbers

http://update.micros...t.aspx?ln=en-us

If you click installation history, the failed ones should have KB 123456 etc

Didn't see those here, they may be part of SP2, if you run updates, does it show them as necessary, or downloaded, ready for installation

This may help, it is the USB 1.1 - 2.0 update
