whats up w/ my hard drive?

howdy- hey i have a 82 gig hard drive, however when installing windows it says its 32 gigs. ive run through the partitions and deleted them all, didnt work and ive also went in and manually typed in the heads, sectors and stuff where i came out with 84 gigs-- when i went to install xp, it was back at 32 and yes i did save my changes when i left the BIOS thing. what is wrong? its driving me maadd. if anyone can shed any light on what could be going wrong theyre help would be GREATLY appreciated cuz i dont want to go back and buy another HD. thanx
