Hi

I'm very careful with security on my computer, I use Zone Alarm, AVG and Search & Destroy but a friend of mine gave me a CD of photos and after copying the entire contents onto the desktop AVG has found four .exe files related to hidrag.a in c:\System Volume Information\

AVG can't fix this problem - can anyone help, below is the Hijackthis logfile - how do I get rid of this virus, and is there anything I need to worry about?

Many thanks

A

One of the best features of WindowsXP is the System Restore option, however if a virus infects a computer with this operating system the virus can be backed up in the System Restore folder. Therefore, clearing the restore points is necessary after a virus removal.

To reset your restore points, you will need to log into your computer with an account which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has administrator access because you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account.

1. Right-click My Computer>Click Properties>Click the System Restore tab>Check the box next to 'Turn off System Restore on all drives'>Click Apply>Click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Repeat the process but this time remove the check from the box.

Let me know if the detection has stopped now.

Hi

That's cleared it up completely! Thanks very very much for this - I thought I was going to be cursed with it forever.

Thanks for the clear instructions that made it an absolute doddle.

All the best
