Mate of mine has bought a OEM disc off Microsoft for £16 as he lost his orignal XP disc.

He has phoned me to say that when he tries to boot to cd to install XP using the OEM disc, it wont boot.

The cd drive tray opens and closes and is seen in the BIOS so it seems the drive works ok and he has it set to boot from cd.

Do OEM discs boot?

Thanks

most of them do...it's possible that this one does not...assuming it's an actual legal OEM disk he could try getting a bootdisk from www.bootdisk.com and starting that with cdrom support...and see if he can get the thing to boot that way...
