Rename an Exchange 2003 Mailbox

I have a user and the name on his mailbox does not match his own. Apparently when he came into his position they used his predessor's Mailbox as his own so he'd still get the emails to the old user. however, it has been almost a year and now he wants it changed. Is this possible, and if it is, is it less work just to re-create his mailbox under a new name?
