Windows XP repair feature won't delete your data, installed programs, personal information, or settings. It just repairs the operating system

You will need to install everything from Microsoft Update after this.

Once you do this, please get back to me to tell me if your problems are resolved.

Alright, I'm in the middle of installing the SP2 upgrade (from SP1) and it has a pop-up saying "migrate.exe - Entry Point Not Found... The procedure entry point GetIUMS could not be located in the dynamic link library MSDART.DLL" And when I press "Ok" (that's the only thing I can press, there are no other options), the pop-up just returns. What do I do?

EDIT: Nevermind, looks like it worked even with this message popping up... I'll update ya in a minute or two with a new post from the laptop instead of from my PC

Man, you're so freakin' helpful.. my mom's computer would pretty be trash still if you didn't help me out. My mom offered to let me take the laptop to college with me as I head off (woo! freshman year, baby!) but I refused because I didn't like her laptop.. Now I'm telling her that I'll definitely be bringing the laptop to the campus haha.

You're brilliant dude. I wish I could donate to you through the paypal link, but I'm like broke starting college and all.


And one last thing.. would it be a problem for you to check my PC with a new HJT log? It's been de-virused before using an online forum (I could've sworn it was this one, but they made me register when I came here lol), so I'm guessing it's pretty good anyway.. but this would be a "just in case" thing so that if my computer is crashed when I get home from college, I can honestly say it wasn't like that when I left.. lol

A. Everything looks great, you are ready to go. You are most welcome. It was a pleasure to be able to help out. The forum regs require that you start a new topic for another computer. This stuff is on a first-come, first-served basis.

B. Here are some tips to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future:

Make sure you keep your Windows OS current by visiting Windows update
regularly to download and install any critical updates and service packs. With out these you are leaving the backdoor open.

I strongly recommend installing the following applications:

• Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
• Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
• How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
• How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.

To protect yourself further:

• Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
• MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
• Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
