Hello im new here and have a question that I hope can be answered.

My computer was running slow so I ran my anti-viral and adware/spyware programs and cleared what it brought up, but it was still running slow afterwards so I restarted my computer and now when I log in it shows just my background for about 5 mins or so then loads the icons and such but I have no connection to any of the other computers or the internet.

I have tried booting into safemode and rescanning
checking the device manager
useing other cat5 cables
resetting the router and moden/directly connecting to the modem
renewing the ip, return with "An error occurred while renewing interface local area connection : the RPC server is unavailable"

The only thing I can think of left to do is reformat but I would like to avoid that if possible.

I have used the search function in both the networking and the windows forum but didnt find an answer.

Please may someone be out there that can help me!

Thanks in advance

Hi. It sounds like you may not be totally clean of any internet-borne nasties... I suggest posting your HijackThis logfile in our malware section, and one of our Malware Specialists will get back to you as soon as possible.

I reformatted and it was working fine but the next day it stopped, and it came up with a new message in the cmd window "system cannot find the specified file" when I did "ipconfig /renew", I booted up with the windows cd in and it came up saying a .sys was corrupted I forgot the file name. my friend said it might be RAM issues or a mobo problem
