Yes, will send tonight......6PST.
Is there an easy way to determine which Windows Service Pack I have, as I had a MicroSoft web error when trying to download SP 1 and it sounds like I need to update to SP 2 once we get rid of ALL the virus's.
Note I said ALL, as you were correct, that there were more than just "WINANTIVIRUSPOR2006"!

Don, your HJT log indicates that you have SP2 installed already. SP1 was an additional set of security patches but SP2 virtually rewrote the Windows operating programme. I do not see any indication that there is anything wrong with your operating system.

Phil,
Lots of trouble tonight, starting with no Java Icon in control panel, but did find a coffe cup under Other Control Panel Options. Noticed "WINANTIVIRUSPRO2006" in the control panel options & didn't like that! I was not able to download Applets or Applications or other files...did finally find clear cache, but not the part where you leave all 3 checked?

Only one exception from Ewido, which runs forever!

Items not recognised by me (means nothing, probably all good!)
AgereSys.PCI soft modem
KBD
PC-Doctor for windows

Python 2.2 &2.2.1
siSVGA utilities
SONIC recordnow & update manager
Wex Tech answer works

During Killbox option nothing was in the window, so I pastedC:\Doc & set'g that you had on the page and it contained UDenfender and it stated it deleted it.

Finally during CCleaner there were 100 issues that had no open share or no connection to anything? and it suggested they be deleted, which I did, but I think it gave me a back-up file.

Here are my three reports:

Hello again Don

The logs look good. Of the programmes you highlighted as being unknown to you, none of them are bad, but please uninstall WINANTIVIRUSPRO2006.

I am not sure if you have a problem with Ewido if it scans forever; I would say a normal scan lasts for between 1 and 2 hours on a PC with a few gigabytes of files and a 1.8 GHz cpu.

We can disable the dial-up internet connection simply by going to the Control Panel > Network Connections > Right Click on the DIAL-UP connection > choose DISABLE.

The Earthlink Web Accelerator is more of a problem as I don't see a single command for this. It would appear to be part of something larger and therefore disabling it may well disable something you want to use. Can I suggest you have a word with Earthlink?

Please update your Java by downloading and installing this file: Java automatic update Select XPi button.

Rescan with HijackThis. Close all programmes leaving only HijackThis running. Place a checkmark or tick against the following:

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - ~CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497} - (no file)

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Please post a fresh HJT log for final inspection. How's the PC running now?

Phil,
PC is running much better, thanks to you. Ewido just runs slow, but between 1-2 hours is correct.

The uninstall WinAntiVirusPro2006 (apprears in my Control Panel options), do I use Windows Add or Remove Programs also found in my Control Panel?

Earthlink Accelerator is a good thing that I want to keep, allows for poorer quality video, but higher speed.

I'm having no luck downloading Java......clicked on XPi button and nothing happens! Shut down, re-started to verify.............nothing. Repeated, still nothing!

Working from home tomorrow and will try to get on early, like 7 AM my time and hope you are available at that time.

Hello again Don

Yes, please use the ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS to uninstall WinAntiVirusPro2006. It should not be active now, but it is better to get rid of junk.

The Earthlink Accelerator is something I thought you didn't want.

Earthlink wants you to use their "Total Access" log-on to take advantage of the internet "Accellerator" for speed. If you know a way to disable that pop-up, that would be a bonus.

I don't understand why your JAVA is not updating, can you try the manual update again? http://jdl.sun.com/w...?BundleId=10641

Finally got Java to update, last link worked.

When I go to my Control Panel, it states Pick a Category and on the left side is See Also: Other Control Panel Options. Then it states Pick a Control Panel Icon and there is WinAntiVirus Pro 2006 with a link that when you put the cursor underneath it, it states "The Anti-Virsus Protection is active on your system", but does not show-up in Windows search nor can I find it in Add & Remove Programs?????? If I right click on the link it gives you the option of "open" or "create a shortcut"....do I just dis-regard?

Anyhow, PC running good and his is the latest HJT log:

Hello again Don

Great news on the JAVA.

It sounds like we have a registry remnant for WinAntiVirus Pro 2006. I wonder if you could provide a screen shot for me?

How to provide a screen capture.

Select the window that you want to show us

Press the ALT key and the Print Screen (sometimes this key is labelled Prt Sc, or Prt Scr) simultaneously

Open Microsoft Paint (usually Start > All Programs > Accessories > Paint)

On the menu bar at the top, choose EDIT > PASTE

Save the file on the desktop by choosing FILE > SAVE AS

Click on the DESKTOP button on the left side of the dialog box, then in the FILE NAME box type: screen1, and under SAVE AS TYPE, choose JPEG

Click the SAVE button

Close Paint

To attach the file, click the ADD_REPLY button at the bottom of this thread. When the window opens, scroll below the message box to FILE ATTACHMENTS, click BROWSE, click the DESKTOP button, then choose SCREEN1, and then click the OPEN button.

Now click the ATTACH button, then click ADD_REPLY button

There is one small adjustment to make with HJT:

Rescan with HijackThis. Close all programmes leaving only HijackThis running. Place a checkmark or tick against the following:

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - ~CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497} - (no file)

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Post back a fresh (final) HijackThis log, from normal mode, and I will take another look.

Attached File  Screen2.doc   101.5KB   10 downloads This might be a little clearer:

Phil,

Reviewing recent threads, it looks like WinAntiVirus Pro 2006 is causing a lot of folks problems. Do you know where one picks this thing up, as I maybe more careful in the future? Also, if my Virus protection is up to date will it keep it from happening again?

Thx,

Don

Please download and run this tool: http://securityrespo...er/FxNetOpt.exe

Please go to SEARCH > ALL FILES AND FOLDERS > and type in *.cpl > hit ENTER.

Please copy and paste the result into the thread.

Nowadays, you cannot simply rely upon an AV programme to keep your PC free of both virii and malware, you really must have more defences than that. I will be giving you some advice when I am happy that all is well with your PC, but to answer your question, without doubt and by far, the biggest single activity that gives you these problems is music downloading.
