Missing Icons and Short Cuts

I ran Ad Aware SE professional - yesterday when I booted up I got a series of error messages that certain programs were try to write to my registry, so I zapped these as instructed by Ad Aware. Now when I boot up I get the error message that Windoes cannot open this file - for example the TabUserW.exe.lnk file.

All my icones have been replaced by a generic kind of icon all with extensions *.lnk.

Whenever I click on an icon nothing happens - even when I go to control panel - add remove programs, I wanted to remove Ad Aware, I just get the "Windows cannot open this file error".

The same happens when I try the system restore.
