partition wizard in xp

my slave drive containing all my data is not recognized in my computer but shows up in disk managment as basic, disk 1, 7.87 unallocated, status online. the partition style under properties is MBR. if i use the wizard to create a new partition and say do not format, will all the data be saved or will it be erased??

It's gonna be erased. When you create a partition, but do not format it, nothing shows up in windows explorer, you just told windows that there's a partition on that hard disc. To use a partition it has to be formatted, which does erase stuff.
