I would like to share a timetable with my mates (example excel file) which allows them to update and save the file too (all 5 users). Is this possible?

If you have a network up and running, they would all have access to it. Take note that only one user can be on the same file at the same time. If someone is on that excel file, you'll need him or her to close it before you can edit it.

It is not no a network. I understand that PCAnywhere can do remote access but I wouldn't want them to look a the whole pc. Is it possible to set PCAnywhere to allow access only to that folder which contains the excel file?

Norton PC Anywhere? Perhaps. I have never actually used that myself.
