Periodic "system" CPU usage spikes

For the last one or two weeks I have been having some serious system slowdowns while playing everquest. Whenever i notice it happening i will control alt delete and check my running processes. What I notice in there is that the CPU usage for the process "system" is staying in a range thats about 30-50% (mem usage doesnt change). Then after about 10 or 15 minutes of this the computer will go back to "normal" and if i look again system is at 00 or 03 at the most. I asked a few friends to see what their system was at normally and it was also 00 - 03.

I searched around on google for similar problems and came up with a post on this forum ( http://www.geekstogo...mp;#entry183462 )

So I decided that i would run through the all the pre-posting suggestions and see if they would help me. I've run Cleanup!, AdAware, CWshreader Spybot S&D, Ewido Anti-Malware, and an on-line scanner (forgot the name but I believe it was trendMicro?)

Anyway, I'd appreciate any help you can provide with this! It's really frustrating when I just built this computer a month ago :(
