Thunderbird inbox fills slowly

I have been using Thuderbird for several years without a problem. Recently, when I open Thunderbird, the right hand panel which usually shows my inbox messages is blank for sometime. Thereafter, the list of messages appears. posted this elsewhere by mistake.

Hi. Have you made any changes to your system recently? Have you niticed any other issues appear?

No system changes. Today I compacted the inbox as instructed on the Mozilla site. No improvement.

I am having the same promblem with my thunderbird as well. However, it is only on one account which is my main account. If you find anything out please let me know and I will do the same.
