Almost everytime I start my computer i get an svchost.exe error that says "the memory could not be "written"" and when that happens my soundcard driver wont work either, so I have to restart my computer about 5 times before the error is gone. I had this error a pretty long time now and I have searched the internet for solutions but havent found any that match my problem.

I have made no major hardware updates, and as I have said this has been happening a while now so I have installed a fair amount of software since.

I have carried out numerous s scans on my entire hard drive and tried various anti-spyware programs, but to no avail. I also have XP Service Pack 2 installed so Windows does not let me install any security patches.

It seems as though if I do get the svchost.exe error, if i leave the window without selecting 'OK' or 'Cancel' to debug or terminate the program, the system works with no problems, however as soon as I select an option my sound card stops working and then comes the dreaded crash...

This problem is getting very irritating and I would be very grateful for some help, thank you.

Okay I stumbled across a forum today where some guy was having, what seemed to be EXACTLY the same problem as me... so i followed the advice given to him.... delete all files in the temp folder (so i deleted them ALL for every user, and in c:\windows) and switch off windows update, so I did...
I restarted, and to my absolute joy... NO ERROR!!! But, however upon my next restart it popped up again :whistling:... Can anyone suggest a reason for this??? Maybe it was just one of the 'working' restarts where no error comes up, but next time it will?

Please please please help!!!!!

start with a full checkdisk: Open windows explorer, right click on c, choose properties. Click on the Tools tab, then choose "check now" under error checking. Select BOTH options. It will prompt you to run checkdisk at next startup. Click yes. Restart the computer.

once it completes, you will need to look in the event log. Right click on "My Computer" and choose manage. Look at system and application. Please report any events marked with a red x
Also, look for an event called "winlogon". This will contain the information from the checkdisk.

If you have a lot of entries marked with a red x, just let me know. I can give you alternative instructions for sending me the entire event logs.

now before we close out of the computer management, go to device manager. Do you have any red x's or yellow exlamation points? If so then what are they?

Also, in device manager there are no exclamation marks etc. on any devices.
However, today when I logged on to my computer no error appeared as it sometimes does not, so do you think it may not have any problems with my devices because this time I have logged on with no svchost error? Normally when i log on with an error there may be problems stated??

Thank you for your help so far :whistling:
