[dpends]

It has become so slow at start-up that between 2 and 2 1/2 minutes is the norm. It used to be that startup was fast and it made turning on the computer a joy. Now it is like downloading a large jpg file on a slow 386 computer ... start and go for a coffee.
Suggestions on dealing with this very agrivating problem would be appreciated.

PS. I am willing to post start up files etc if requested.

Do you have many programs that are running when you start up the machine?

go Start>run>type ''msconfig''>startup tab. Many items checked?

have you cleaned the start up... if notit would be a good idea.

go to start and click on run, type msconfig adnhit enter
on the startup tab deselect everything, only leaving your antivirus protection and antispyware..........you know what, it would be a good idea if you did post the start up files

Press Print Screen key on the keyboard.
Open Microsoft Paint...start, run and type mspaint
Paste the picture there
then just save the file and attace it on geekstogo

not that they are really necessary but just leave them there, just remove the checkmark from all of them and click apply

Thank you for sticking with me. Had to be away from the computer for a couple of hours this pm thus no replys. If you are still there 2 things have been done.
a) I followed the advice of "rushin1nd" re:prefetch (above)
b) then in just the last few minutes removed the files you suggested from start up.
The results were as follows:
i) after a) above the time decreased from 2 1/2 minutes to 2 minutes.
ii) after b) above (remove...) the time decreased to 51 seconds
