Extracting archives with CD

Recently I bought a new MP3 player with cd etc,but on trying to install the software,all I got was "error reading archive,the files could not be extracted",therefore making it impossible for me to download it
I am at a loss as what to do next.
Is my PC at fault or what is the problem .
Any suggestions gratefully received.
