[Darius Black]

So I lost my Diablo II CDs and I decided to just crack the game. I guess I got what I deserved.

BitDefender blocked the trojans before they did anything bad, but now I can't delete them!

Here is what comes up when I try to delete in explorer:
"Cannot delete file: cannot read from the source file or disk." (The two files crack.exe and install.exe)
I tried doing it in command prompt, while shutting down explorer, but it didn't work either.

Here's what BitDefender tells me:
Trojan.DollarRevenue.B (crack.exe)
Trojan.Agent.AMX (install.exe)
BitDefender has blocked this virus – your computer has NOT been infected.

I've tried the Clean Up!, TrojanHunter, VundoFix and all that, to no avail.

Sorry about the delay in replying to your post, the forums have been very busy lately.

Well your right, there is no indication in the Hijackthis log, as it's been a couple of days since it was posted please rescan and post another log.

Also
Please do an online virus scan with Panda ActiveScan Here. You need to use Internet Explorer for this scan.

• Once you get to the Panda site, scroll down a bit and click on Scan your PC
• A new window will appear; click on Check Now!
• A new window will appear; fill in the boxes (Country, State, email addy)
• Click on Scan Now! >
  If you have never used ActiveScan before, you will be prompted to install an ActiveX control (asinst.cab) : click on Install. Panda will install the component, and then install the latest signature files.
• From "Select a device to scan...", choose "My Computer"
• Allow the scan to run. It'll take a while.
• When complete, click on "See Report", and then on "Save report"; save it to a convenient location.
• I will need you to post that report in your next reply; simply open the text file, then copy/paste the content here.

It seems most of the items found by panda are just cookies, the tool below will deal with them.
Do you know the filepath of the files you are trying to delete, ie. C:\folder\file? if so can you post the full path here. One question, Bitdefender said it blocked the viruses, are you sure they have not been quarantined by Bitdefender?

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
This program is for XP and Windows 2000 onlyDouble-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browserClick Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

Thanks, Andy.

The path is C:\Documents and Settings\Darius\My Documents\My Downloads\0000000 (I changed the folder name so it floats to the top) and the files are crack.exe and install.exe.

I checked in the BitDefender quarantine list and it doesn't show them. Basically, it's like they're just sitting there, stagnant, and can't be deleted by any means I've tried. Everytime I open the folder the warning pops up again in BitDefender.

Sigh.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

First download ewido anti-spyware from HERE and save that file to your desktop.
This is a 30 day trial of the program

• Once you have downloaded ewido anti-spyware, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
• Once the setup is complete you will need run ewido and update the definition files.
• On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "Update now" link.
  • Next select the "Start Update" button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
• Once the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
• Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then select "Quarantine".
• Under "Reports"
  • Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
  • Un-Select "Only if threats were found"

Close ewido anti-spyware, Do Not run a scan just yet, we will shortly.


Please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :

• Restart your computer
• After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
• Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
• Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
• Choose your usual account.

Once in Safemode
Locate and delete the folder
Do not try to open the folder just highlight and delete it.

Next

• Lauch ewido-anti-spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
• Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab then click on "Complete System Scan".
• ewido will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
  Once the scan is complete do the following:
• If you have any infections you will prompted, then select "Apply all actions"
• Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
• Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important).
• Close ewido and reboot your system back into Normal Mode and post the results of the ewido report scan.

It's gone!

The safe mode delete did it (though it took me forever to find a PS2 keyboard; none of my 3 USB ones had a functioning F8 key before startup). The ewido anti-spyware report only showed a few tracking cookies which I promptly deleted.

We have a couple of last steps to perform and then you're all set.

Here's a few utilities to help protect your pc in the future.

Let's clean your restore points and set a new one:

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs from changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected)1. Turn off System Restore.On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
2. Restart your computer.

3. Turn ON System Restore.On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
[/list]System Restore will now be active again.

Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programs:

• SpywareBlaster to help prevent spyware from installing in the first place.
• SpywareGuard to catch and block spyware before it can execute.
• IESpy-Ad to block access to malicious websites so you cannot be redirected to them from an infected site or email.

You should also have a good firewall. Here are 2 free ones available for personal use:

• Kerio Personal Firewall
• ZoneAlarm

and a good antivirus (these are also free for personal use):

• AVG Anti-Virus
• Avast Home Edition

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated.

To keep your operating system up to date visit

• Microsoft Windows Update

monthly. And to keep your system clean run these free malware scanners

• AdAware SE Personal
• Spybot Search & Destroy

weekly, and be aware of what emails you open and websites you visit.
