First of all, I have not ever had to use a forum before for tech support, so bear with me. I have a couple issues and need to run hijack this, in the directions it said to go to msconfig and check all the boxes before running the scan. I am unable to access regedit / msconfig/ or taskmanager unless I am in safe mode................... bummer! Is it neccesary to uncheck all the boxes of startup programs before I run the scan? If it will help I will be happy to, there are several in there that say / run quiet , so I had them unchecked.

I was still trying to decide if I should go to safe mode and check all the items before running a "hijack this" log........and was gonna defragment before i did it, but it does the same thing as task manager, pops up for a second and doesnt let you do anything. Just thought I would let you know that also due to the fact so many people have this issue also, I am gonna just go ahead and post my log in a separate topic.

OK I did a little on my own, but still not sure what else to do...............still can use msconfig. I used every tool you had available but found these 2 were the best.
I really appreciate someone telling me what to delete. I did a scan after turning off system restore just to make sure it wasnt old, and I went and deleted FLEOK

Please scan your system with Ad-aware:
Ad-aware SE - Download - Home Page

• If you have a previous version of Ad-Aware installed, during the installation of the new version you will be prompted to uninstall or keep the older version - be sure to uninstall the previous version.
• After installing Ad-aware, you will be prompted to update the program and run a full scan. De-select all boxes so that it does not run.
• Manually run "Ad-Aware SE Personal" and from the main screen Click on "Check for Updates Now".
• Once the definitions have been updated:
• Reconfigure Ad-Aware for Full Scan as per the following instructions:
  • Launch the program, and click on the Gear at the top of the start screen.
  • Under General Settings the following boxes should all be checked off: (Checked will be indicated by a green circle with a check mark in it, Un-Checked is a red circle with an X in it. If it is greyed out, those features are only available in the retail version.)
    • "Automatically save logfile"
    • Automatically quarantine objects prior to removal"
    • Safe Mode (always request confirmation)
    • Prompt to update outdated confirmation) - Change to 7 days.
  • Click the "Scanning" button (On the left side).
  • Under Drives & Folders, select "Scan within Archives"
  • Click "Click here to select Drives + folders" and select your installed hard drives.
  • Under Memory & Registry, select all options.
  • Click the "Advanced" button (On the left hand side).
  • Under "Shell Integration", select "Move deleted files to Recycle Bin".
  • Under "Log-file detail", select all options.
  • Click on the "Defaults" button on the left.
  • Type in the full url of what you want as your default homepage and searchpage e.g. http://www.google.com.
  • Click the "Tweak" button (Again, on the left hand side).
  • Expand "Scanning Engine" by clicking on the "+" (Plus) symbol and select the following:
    • "Unload recognized processes during scanning."
    • "Obtain command line of scanned processes"
    • "Scan registry for all users instead of current user only"
  • Under "Cleaning Engine", select the following:
    • "Automatically try to unregister objects prior to deletion."
    • "During removal, unload explorer and IE if necessary"
    • "Let Windows remove files in use at next reboot."
    • "Delete quarrantined objects after restoring"
  • Click on "Safety Settings" and select "Write-protect system files after repair (Hosts file, etc)"
  • Click on "Proceed" to save these Preferences.
  • Click on the "Scan Now" button on the left.
  • Under "Select Scan Mode, be sure to select "Use Custom Scanning Options".
• Close all programs except ad-aware.
• Click on "Next" in the bottom right corner to start the scan.
• Run the Ad-Aware scan and allow it to remove everything it finds and then REBOOT - Even if not prompted to.
• After you log back in, Ad-Aware may run to finalize the scan and remove any locked files that it may of found. Allow it to finish.

• Close Ad-Aware SE build 1.05 and Ad-Watch (if running)
• Install the VX2 Cleaner
• Start Ad-Aware SE build 1.05
• Go to “Plug-ins”
• Select the VX2 Cleaner plug-in and click “Run Plugin”
• If your computer isn't infected, click "close"
• If your computer is infected:
• Select “Clean System”
• Reboot your computer
• Scan your computer with Ad-Aware
• Remove any VX2 objects detected
• Reboot your computer again
• Run a second scan to make sure the files have been removed from your computer

If you would please, rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log in this same topic, and let us know how your system's working.

After this, Reboot and Delete the following files:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\iaokm.dll
C:\Program Files\Viewpoint <--Use add/remove programs then delete the file afterwards.
C:\WINDOWS\System32\babbirx.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ossproxy.exe


Note: Make sure you have Set Windows to show Hidden Files & Folders before you Start Sending Them to us For Analysis, or you're deleting them. This can be done by looking at the instructions at This Webpage http://www.xtra.co.n...1916458,00.html

To Delete These Files/Folders, You Will need to Boot into Safe Mode. This can be done by tapping F8 while your machine restarts.

next post a fresh Hijack this log and let us know how your system is doing.

OK, I did that, I could not find the 3 files to delete

in safe mode or regular, I did remove viewpoint in safe mode, but when i got back to regular it was still there, at least one of them, so I removed it again, it seems to be gone now. I also ran another adaware scan now, it had 12 issues....it only had 5 earlier. I also cannot use taskmanager now, so I do not know what the problem is now, it seems we are getting there! Thanks again

I changed the settings to show hidden folders and this is my new Hijack this log

i missed one

using hijack this do the following:

first go to misc/tools and then click on the button that says open process manager.

locate this file on that window that opens up and kill it with Hijack This:

BITDEFENDERX.EXE

Next hit back at the bottom and then click on scan. next place a check next to this entry:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [BitDefender Antivirus] BITDEFENDERX.EXE

then making sure all windows, including this one, are closed click on fix checked. reboot into safe mode then find and delete the following file if it is present:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\BITDEFENDERX.EXE

Clean out temporary and TIF files. Go to Start > Run and type in the box: cleanmgr. Let it scan your system for files to remove. Make sure these 3 are checked and then press *ok* to remove:

Temporary Files
Temporary Internet Files
Recycle Bin

and then Download and run this online virus scan:
http://housecall.tre.../start_corp.asp
Make sure you check "AutoClean"

then reboot and post a fresh Hijack This log to see how we did.

ok, well now the kids let me have the computer back......................... I did all the things we needed, the house call scan was clean! I did get rid of bitdefender but it is still listed here, and I was in safe mode when I looked for the file. I then went to hijack this too! I might just be paranoid, but when I open my c drive there are still 4 files I do not understand, skq

sjfkqvvv, these are exe files and a crash document that is about 15,000 kb.............these might be normal, but I know the 3 exe files are new and I just had a dvd burner put in a couple weeks ago

in short it is w32.spybotworm.. And unfortunately it is still on your computer

hit ctrl-alt-delete and then click on the processes tab. next find BITDEFENDERX.EXE and stop the process.

Please look over the Following Entries I have listed, run Hijack This again and check them and then, making sure you have No Internet Explorer Windows open, including this one, Press the "Fix Checked" Button with HijackThis.

Reboot If I have specified below, and Post a Fresh HijackThis log.

After this, Reboot and Delete the following files:

BITDEFENDERX.EXE [color=red]<--You will have to do a search for this file making sure to search hidden files and subfolders under advanced settings

To Delete These Files/Folders, You Will need to Boot into Safe Mode. This can be done by tapping F8 while your machine restarts.
