2 weeks is quite a while ago, but have you tried doing a system restore to a point in time before the problem?

What is your CPU at right now, when your computer is sitting idle? How about when opening a program, what does your CPU usage do?

To see CPU usage, press CTRL + ALT + DEL and look at the bottom of the window that opens.
