When I turned on PC got the following message......

C0000218 Hive SystemRoot\System32\Config\Software\
Corrupt Missing

I reinstalled Windows 98, formatting all but the FAT32 - I ran XP upgrade module. Reloaded all software - ran fine for 2 days.

Gave system back to my buddy. As soon as his kid logged on to AOL and retrieved his mail, the same problem occurred.

Is the source coming from his aol account or is it because I left the FAT32 intact?

Please advise. Have all user files so reinstalling is not a problem. Only using system one time between install is hehe

before going through another reformat why don't you give us a hijack this log.

Please do this.
Download 'Hijack This!'. http://www.merijn.or.../hijackthis.zip
Unzip to a convenient permanent folder, double click HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log, Ctrl-A to Select All, and copy its contents here. Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet.

Please be patient someone will look at your log as soon as possible
