can't open desktop icons

I am running Windows XP and when I click on a desktop icon it will not let me open it, it wants to "send an error report to microsoft." I am thinking this is a virus because my boyfriend has the same exact problem on his computer.

I tried reinstalling the OS and that didn't fix the issue. (therefore running SP1)

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Sorry for the delay in response. The forum has been very busy lately.

You certainly do have some problems there. Please go through the steps in this topic http://www.geekstogo..._Log-t2852.html

At the end of those steps you will be asked to do a new HijackThis log. The version of HijackThis you are using is out of date. Make sure you download the newest version to do the next log.

If your boyfriend's computer has similar problems you could suggest that he follow the same steps and post a new topic with a log from his computer also.

If you have already fixed your machine or received help elsewhere please post back and let us know.
