I create a hyperlink in Excel 2002 say //svrname/myfolder/myfile.pdf

Then I save the document close it reopen the document and the link will not work. It says invalid address and when I edit the hyperlink it looks like: ..\..\myfolder\myfile.pdf

Anyone have any ideas?

The problem was in Adobe.

Versions less than the latest 7.0.8 will not look on local drives or network shares even when you hyperlink them. By upgrading everyone to the latest Adobe version, the links work great.

Just in case someone else runs into this.
