Laptop screen turned black!

hi there,

I am helping my friend fixing and troubleshooting her laptop but the screen turned black in the midst of our troubleshooting!

It is a HP Pavilion zv6000 and we are really getting frustrated with it. Any ideas??

If we shine a flashlight we can see the desktop icons and stuff, but without any light source, the screen is just a big black screen....

Hi. First, try adjusting the brightness. If she has an fn key, use that along with the brightness up (sun with up arrow) and see if it helps. When did this start? Has she made any changes to the system recently?
