Hi i have the Asus A8N-E motherboard with 2x512mb kingston ram. When i put the sticks in 1,3 or 2,4 slots my computer pauses at the first start up screen. When i put the sticks side by side it runs fine.

I thought i had bad ram so i bought 2 brand new 512 sticks and the problem still persists.
I think it's my motherboard but is it possible for me to configure my motherboard to run dual channel instead of buying a new one?

I always have problems getting any info from the asus website. You may have to get into the bios and see what the settings are for your memory. You might have to change it for dual channel memory. You also need to check to see if the memory sticks are exactly the same. Asus seems to be picky about the memory. I could not get to the compatibility list for your motherboard. Here is a similar Mb compatibility list.

You will notice that kingston KVR400/512 is not listed. This type of memory is not meant to be run in dual channel mode. For dual channel memory to run it need to be 64 bit capable. The standard KVR400/512 is not.
