computer never gets to login

Hi,

My computer is running XP service pack 2. At the present time I try to boot pc and it looks like it is starting, but ssems to freeze at the splash screen that says starting windows, then just sits there. Anybody have some ideas what I can try?

btwI cant get safe mode to boot either
