^ i just tried the sfc /scannow and it didn't ask for the CD

does this problem have anyhting to do with the XP home edition CD???

Were you able to borrow an XP CD, or get an answer from e-machines about the recovery CD

If you can get the XP CD you can repair install without losing data

The e-machines CD may have a similar option
