I start my pc and I log in, everything appears to be fine. Then a black box appears(which I can't read) and my computer automatically shuts down. I have a dell computer. I performed a clean boot and that worked but I don't understand how to fix the problem after that. I was going to try to reinstall windows but when I get to the license acceptance agreement I go to push F8 and nothing happens. I know I'm going in six different ways. Could somebody please point me in the right direction and help a confused soul out. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Sounds like someone is playing a game with you....a practical joke.

How long before it shuts down?

Black box is probably a command line program, maybe just a batch file.

Try a hijack log from safe mode and we'll see if we can ferret it out. I will see if I can remember my old window scheduler command line commands, too

check these two

O2 - BHO: PCTools Site Guard - {5C8B2A36-3DB1-42A4-A3CB-D426709BBFEB} - C:\PROGRA~1\SPYWAR~1\tools\iesdsg.dll (file missing)

O4 - Global Startup: winlogin.exe

and click fix checked....the global startup is....peculiar....

winlogon is a normal service that windows uses at boot up, but this is not where it should be starting from...reboot and rerun hijackthis and post another log

well I tried to start it in safe and I got the error, I pressed enter and it booted up normally, I closed the black box before the pc shut down. I ran a hijack log and clicked on what you told me to, when I wnet to fix checked it tells me unable to delete the file o4-global startup:winlogon.exe the file may be in use.Use task manager to shut it down. I went to task manager and tried to end the process, but task manager tells me that this is a critical system process. Taks manager cannot end this process

I'll try the netsky fix. But I got a Question. I run clean boot from safe mode( Iwas able to get in safe mode with no error, Don't know what that was about) In clean boot I check everything except load startup items. I restart the computer and it starts great--it doesn't shut down on its own. Do you think the problem is in my startup programs and if it is how do I troubleshoot to find the corrupt one.
