I did as you requested and FileFind did not find any files.

Lately, my system crashes and when I get it back up and running Symantec Antivirus reports that I have numerous infections. The last time that happened I received approximately 40 alerts in 5 minutes and had to reboot my computer twice to clear everything. Now everything is running slowly! I'm getting frustrated because I'm in school to get a PhD and I rely heavily on the internet to access course materials, to conduct research, to complete assignments, and communicate with everyone. I just don't have time to scan my computer for two plus hours every other day or more. AND I'm close to murdering my fiance for looking at [bleep] and causing this mess in the first place! If worse comes to worse, will doing that system restore thing that wipes everything out and makes the computer like it was when it was first purchased take care of my problem? I can't remember what it is called exactly.

Below is the HijackThis log. I would post the Symantec AntiVirus logs, but everytime I try to access those logs, the program crashes.

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the box next to the entry listed below.

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Reboot into safe mode.

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

• Double-click Killbox.exe on your destop to run it.
• Select:
  • Delete on Reboot
  • then Click on the All Files button.
• Please copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):
  
  C:\WINDOWS\system32\ehoepad.dll
  
  
  
• Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose Paste from Clipboard.
  
• Click the red-and-white Delete File button. Click Yes at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click OK at any PendingFileRenameOperations prompt (and please let me know if you receive this message!).

If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run Killbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try Killbox again.

I did as you said and here is the HijackThis file. Also, after deleting the ehoepad.dll thing in Killbox I received the pending file rename prompt.

Okay good...now we are getting somewhere.

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.sub.../Fixwareout.exe
http://www.bleepingc.../Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

Once the desktop loads a text file will open (report.txt), you can close it - the file has already been saved.

Run HijackThis. Click "Do a System Scan Only", and place a check next to the following items (if found):

Hi! I did as you requested and deleted those 017-HKLM files in HijackThis. Here are my logs!

At first webpages seemed to load faster so I opend up a new browser window to make sure and let you know, however, within a minute I was no longer able to download ANY webpage. The bar at the bottom of the computer that tells you which webpage you are accessing said "Downloading res:\\C:\WINDOWS\system32\shdoclc.dll\dnserror.htm

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked.

• Go to your Control Panel and double-click on Network Connections
• Then right click on your Default Connection
• Usually Local Area Connection for Cable and DSL
• Left click on Properties
• Double-Click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item
• Select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS Servers Automatically
• Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks

Next Go start > run and type cmd and hit OK
type
ipconfig /flushdns
then hit enter, type exit hit enter
(that space between g and / is needed)

Reboot your machine.

I did as you said and again was unable to connect to the internet. I restored the files I deleted with HijackThis and was able to get online again. My internet service is provided through the university I attend so I looked up the IP address and preferred DNS server settings that I am supposed to use. The DNS server settings had been changed to 85.255.114.76 and 85.255.112.81. I believe you said they were from the Ukraine. So I repeated your steps and inserted the correct DNS server numbers. The speed of my internet connection has greatly improved. Below is my new HijackThis log. Thank you for your time! I would have downloaded every malware program available if left on my own. I never would have thought to look where you directed me.

The following is a list of tools and utilities that I like to suggest to people. This list is full of great tools and utilities to help you understand how you got infected and how to keep from getting infected again.

Detect and Removal

• Spybot Search & Destroy- Uber powerful tool which can search and annhilate nasties that make it onto your system. Now with an Immunize section that will help prevent future infections.
  
• AdAware - Another very powerful tool which searches and kills nasties that infect your system. AdAware and Spybot Search & Destroy compliment each other very well.

Prevention

• SpywareBlaster - Great prevention tool to keep nasties from installing on your system.
  
• SpywareGuard - Works as a Spyware "Shield" to protect your computer from getting malware in the first place.
  
• IE-SpyAd - puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
  
• CleanUP! - Cleans temporary files from IE and Windows, empties the recycle bin and more. Great tool to help speed up your computer and knock out those nasties that like to reside in the temp folders.
  
• Windows Updates - It is very important to make sure that both Internet Explorer and Windows are kept current with the latest critical security patches from Microsoft. To do this just start Internet Explorer and select Tools > Windows Update, and follow the online instructions from there.
  
• Google Toolbar - Free google toolbar that allows you to use the powerful Google search engine from the bar, but also blocks pop up windows.
