My Windows Firewall has been disabled and I am not able to turn it back on. I have Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security 2006, but every time I activate the Firewall in that program, I cannot surf the web. The Windows Firewall operating alone (with only the "Firewall" portion of Trend Micro shut off) seemed to work fine until recently.

I have run Spybot Search and Destroy and keep coming up with these same re-occuring problems:

Others may have a better solution... I am no techie, just an empiracle user...

I use both...XP, and PC-cillin [swear by it...used since early 90's]

Yes, operating two firewalls is dangerous...I believe you were warned at the install stage of PC-cillin, as I recall. Luckily, I've run both at once and had no problems, but that's just me and my system...can't speak for others.

If it were my system [after a back up of the registry and whatever else you feel important]:

1. completely uninstall PC-cillin and reinstall it again later after you... I've done this many times with no problems
2. reboot...back yet?
3. if not, run sfc_/scannow at the command prompt
4. reboot, back yet, if not...
5. reinstall Windows via the repair mode only, at this stage...drastic, but you need that fire wall, and the error shield in the systray will drive you nuts if you don't
6. returned? if not go deeper, and reinstall Windows, but only replace the system files, I cannot recall which number it is, but the instructions are obvious
7. returned?
8. if so, be sure it is operating properly
9. reinstall PC-cillin, and DO NOT INSTALL it's firewall provision...the world won't come to an end, and two cooks in the kitchen just won't work, one or the other is going to freak out :whistling:
10. do a reg clean and defrag to put all back in order
