I don't know much about the different interfaces for harddives. My friend has this motherboard:
http://www.newegg.co...N82E16813185059
What kind of harddrive is compatable with that? IDE Ultra ATA100, SATA 3.0Gb/s, SCSI Ultra320, Serial ATA150...I have no clue

Actually to clarify things a bit, he technically doesn't have the motherboard yet. I'm building him a cheap computer. Very cheap. We haven't ordered yet, but this is what I've been looking at.

motherboard:
http://www.newegg.co...N82E16813185059
CPU:
http://www.newegg.co...N82E16819112231
Video card:
http://www.newegg.co...N82E16814150107
Case w/ PSU:
http://www.newegg.co...N82E16811147001
HDD:
http://www.newegg.co...N82E16822144122
Soundcard:
http://www.newegg.co...N82E16829130001

Is all of this compatable? I'm mostly wondering if the harddrive is compatable with the motherboard. I already have RAM and optical drives for it. Oh, and do I even need a sound card? Or is there an onboard soundcard? It should come about $250 in the end.

Yeah very cheap system indeed. That mobo only supports ide which is ata100 for a harddrive.. It doesnt support sata. You get what you pay for though. It would be fine for a basic pc for surfing the web and light programs.

Make shure he has memory to put in that pc, you didnt list memory on your last post.

Yes, I already have 2 512MB PC3200 DDR 400 184 pin sticks of RAM. I'm sure those are compatable.
I'm just not so sure about the harddrive. This one will work, won't it?

I'm trying to keep this as cheap as possible. He's upgrading from a system with a Pentium 3 processor and 128MB RAM, so really anything is an improvement.
I'm just wondering what the "ultra" is in "IDE Ultra ATA100 ". Hoping it's compatible with the motherboard.
