Mail gone Thunderbird

I am running Firefox 1.5.0.6 in XP using Thunderbird as my email. Thurs when I opened my mail app.
it directed me to start a new acct. all mail was gone. I have had no problems running this program for
over 2 yrs. Went into Mozilla looked for answers. Could not figure out how to move profiles w/out really
possibly doing more damage than good. Just want to get my mail back & go on with life...
Anyone out there interested in working with the technically impaired?
