Here's the briefest description of my problem and what I've tried so far.
Everytime I start my PC, My McAfee VirusScan pops up with:
"Trojan Found and Cleaned:reports the file below :
The file c:\documents and Settings\Jeanne Sommers\Local Settings\Temp... was infected by the Generic Downloader.g trojan and has been deleted to complete the Clean Process"
When I click on "Find out more information", I get this:
File: t1157330875.dll (or another number with the extension .dll)
Trojan name: Generic Downloader.g
File Path:c:\Documents and Settings\Jean...
Status: Clean required delete
McAfee strongly recommends that you scan your computer now."
Once in a while I get the same message, but McAfee is unable to delete the file. when I look in the c:\documents and Settings\[my name]\Local Settings\Temp\ there are files similar in name to the files the VirusScan cleaned. What's weird is that when detected and deleted, the files have the extension ".dll" but when they aren't deleted, when I go and look in the directory above, there are these ".exe" files there.
I deleted them and then shredded my recycle bin.
I've done 5 scans in the past three days -- two in safe mode. My system restore is disabled. I've also run CClean, spybot, and trojan remover. McAfee Virus Scan kicked up the trojan detection message above while the trojan remover was running! McAfee tech support chat couldn't help and suggested I try the Virus Scan Forums. on McAfee they requested a sample be sent to Avert. I sent a sample but the zip file had 0 bytes.
Someone suggest that I bail on Internet Explorer and use Mozilla as my browser, I'm doing that now, but that only cuts down on the trojans by about half. I really hope you can help. It seems harmless, but it's annoying and I am concerned that it's going to mess up my computer. I'm kind of a technically-challenged, but not a total illiterate.
