Hello again Patt

I think that realistically, the chance of malware being responsible is almost nil.

When I put my mind to work on your problem, I come to rael-time scanners. If the problem is only during internet sessions, then it is likely to be a firewall, but if it is also happening at other times too, then I think that AV might be the culprit. I am going to take a guess here and advise you to uninstall Norton and then re-install it. Hopefully this will be the problem and the solution, if not, I'll have to pass you onto another forum.

Let me know how it goes.

I have come across that before. I wonder if you were unaware of having two firewalls? It is possible that Norton is providing one too.

Go to http://www.grc.com and follow the links for SHIELDS UP. When you get to the page where you select the type of scan, go for an all ports scan and have a look at the result. That should tell you quite a bit.

The Windows XP firewall is one way only, incoming. Nowadays, the norm is outgoing too. There are still some free FW about.
